Opening conference of the project Ondava for Life
ONDAVA FOR LIFE project is a response to a negative synergistic effect of the impacts of climate change and inappropriate interventions in the country. The aim of the project is creation of adaptation strategies for project area of 340 km2. The project is stipulated by systematic and coordinated approach in the implementation of selected measures to maintain ecosystem functions of the country as well as supports public debate about the planning of adaptation measures to climate change at the local level. The project is implemented in a partnership of six subjects (Municipality ofNižnáPolianka, Carpathian Biodiversity Conservation Foundation,The Association of Towns and Municipalities of Slovakia, state enterprise Forests of the Slovak Republic, State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic and the Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute - Kingdom of Norway) enters the next phase of implementation.
In September 2014 the project proceeded about networking of partners from the territory, collecting data from the environment and designing proposals for adaptation measures to The adaptation strategy linked to the territory of 44 municipalities of Svidnik andBardejov district. The end of the month was chieflyabout the presentation of the project: opening conference, presentationseminar and field trip to the project area.
OPENING CONFERENCE –Bardejov Spa, 09/23/2014
On the opening conference of the project, assigned especially for experts and the general public, attended 112 participants. The aim of the conference was to present the objectives and expected outcomes of the project in linking to the benefits that the project will bring to the territory's inhabitants. The basic starting point of the conference was the issue of climate change and its impact on everyday life not only in the project area. The topic of climate change adaptation as a prerequisite flood prevention and drought resonated in presentations of experts as well as representatives of donors and project partners. Conference hereby provided a space for performances donors and the EEA Financial Mechanism 2009 - 2014. Conference was attended by representatives of the Government Office, the invitation was accepted by representatives of the Royal Norwegian Embassy. For partners, the representatives: Norvegian Forest and Landscape Institute, the Kingdom of Norway ( Christian Pedersen, Svein Olav Krøgli), State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic (Michal Adamec, Director of Conservation and Landscape SNC), Foundation for Biodiversity Carpathians (Peter Straka, expert guarantor of the project), The Association of Towns and Villages of Slovakia (Viera Krakovská– vice-chairmanof ATVS).

Presentation seminar - NižnáPolianka, 09/24/2014
Next day continued by presentation seminar in NiznaPolianka (09/24/2014), which have been designed especially for representatives of local government and participating municipalities, as well as other local actors and "stakeholders". At the seminar, which was held at the local office in NiznaPolianka, attended by over eighty participants. The spectrum of presentations, implemented as a basis for a panel discussion moderated and guided discussions with workshop participants, was attached to the following topics: local government and climate change; impacts of climate change on the landscape; experience of the villages of upper part of Ondavariver in times of climate change.
Excursion to the project site, 9/24/2014
Excursion to the places of project area was accompanied by professional project supervisor Peter Straka, whorevealed Ondava river basin to foreign partners as well as representatives of donors and partners, linked to the upcoming Adaptation strategie and measures in the project area.
